Use AI Assist in Help Scout
BETA We all get by with a little help from our friends, and we'd like to introduce you to AI Assist, your new friend in Help Scout!
If you want to double check your grammar in a Message, change the tone or length of a reply, or even translate Docs text to a different language — now you can harness the power of AI to accomplish those tasks.
AI Assist is available to Plus and Pro plans, except those using the HIPAA compliance feature.

AI Assist Overview
AI Assist is built into the formatting menu found in the conversation editor you use to reply and leave notes in conversations, the chat window, the Docs editor, and the Messages editor.
There are 6 ways it can help with your text:
- Fix spelling and grammar
- Make it longer
- Make it shorter
- Make it friendlier
- Make it more professional
- Translate
Just highlight the portion of text you want a helping hand with, then click the AI Assist button (the sparkle icon) in the toolbar. Select the assistance you need, and AI will give you an assist!
This tool can be used on any of the languages that you see in the Translate list.
Powered by OpenAI
AI Assist is powered by the OpenAI API service. The data used to generate content in Help Scout is not used by OpenAI to train their model, but will be stored by OpenAI for up to 30 days.
This tool does not submit data to train OpenAI on your organization's behalf. It is only used to generate content within Help Scout.
Don't want AI Assist on your account?
If your organization doesn't want this feature, just have your Account Owner reach out to let us know, and we'd love to know why you want it disabled as well. We'll be happy to make that change.

Fix Spelling and Grammar
Everyone makes mistakes, especially spelling and grammar mistakes. Let AI Assist be your proofreader and clear up at least those mistakes!
Adjust the Length
Choose Make it longer or Make it shorter to adjust the length of your text, while keeping the spirit of your text intact.
Adjust the Tone
Make it friendlier will change some of the language used to make your text sound more like talking to a friend. Make it more professional will change the language to make your text more businesslike.
Translate
Select Translate and you'll find the languages you can translate your text into. These are also the languages that AI Assist works with for all other options.
