Search operators

You can search for conversations, customers, and other data using a full text search. If you want to narrow your search results, we'd recommend using some common search operators. Here's a list of search operators you can use in the Help Scout search box:

Operator Example What it Does
subject subject:rainbow Searches for conversation subjects that contain the word "rainbow"
subject:"have a question" Searches for conversation subjects that contain the phrase "have a question" (not case sensitive)
subject:(coffee OR tea) Searches for conversation subjects that contain the word "coffee" or the word "tea"
subject:(coffee tea) Searches for conversation subjects that contain the word "coffee" and the word "tea" in no particular order
tag tag:carrots Searches for conversations that have the tag "carrots"
tag:"dogs love carrots" Searches for conversations that have the tag "dogs love carrots"
tag:(dogs OR carrots) Searches for conversations that are tagged with either "dogs" or "carrots"
mailbox mailbox:"Orders" Searches the "Orders" mailbox (case sensitive)
number number:1234 Searches for conversation #1234
id id:123456 Searches for the unique conversation ID (before the conversation number in the URL)
customer customer:"Chevy Chase" Searches for a customer with the name "Chevy Chase"
assigned assigned:spock* Searches for conversations assigned to Spock
body body:"what a beautiful day" Searches conversation threads for the phrase, "what a beautiful day"
body body:("what a day" OR "how about tomorrow") Searches conversation threads for the phrase, "what a day" or "how about tomorrow"
status status:active Searches conversations that have a Active status. Active, Pending, Closed and Spam work here.
type
type:chat Searches conversations by type. Chat, email, and phone type accepted.
email email:eliot@rosewater.org Searches for a customer with the email eliot@rosewater.org

You can also combine operators. Just make sure to separate each with a space. For example: subject:bug assigned:denny status:active
